A free clinic, a $295 + GST mentor, half-funded training or a paid coach: which rung suits your business, and how to avoid paying for the same thing twice.

The short answer: Vistage, EO and YPO are peer networks, and each has entry rules. Vistage suits CEOs and owners with US$5M or more in revenue (it also lists a US$1M to US$4M programme). EO suits founders and owners with US$1M or more. YPO is for top operational leaders of larger companies who qualify before age 45. If you are below those lines, or want one expert on your numbers, a coach fits better.

Kevin D'Ambros-Smith is a business coach and advisor who has coached 200+ businesses one-on-one across 30+ industries, after a career at DDB, Ogilvy and Saatchi and Saatchi and founding nine companies. Simple-Growth publishes this guide, so the Simple-Growth System is one of the options below. Facts about other providers come from their own websites, checked on 9 November 2026, and are linked so you can verify them. Figures are in US dollars as the providers state them.

Why does eligibility matter before you compare?

Most comparisons of peer networks start with the benefits. A more useful start is the door. Each network decides who may join, by revenue, role or age, so the first question is not which is best but which will have you. Then ask what problem you want a room of peers to solve, and whether a room is the right tool at all.

We have already covered the wider question of why peer accountability matters and how to choose between group and one-on-one coaching by stage. This guide goes one level down: the three best-known executive peer networks, who they admit, and who they are not built for.

  • Who is admitted: by revenue, role, age or company size?
  • How is the room run: a paid Chair, or members leading each other?
  • Is there individual attention on your business, or is the learning from peers only?
  • What is the price and the way out? Ask in writing, because none of the three lists fees on the pages we checked.
  • Can you verify the claims on the provider's own site?

What does each network actually offer?

Vistage. Vistage says it has 45,000+ members across 40 countries. Its membership page describes groups of 12 to 16 CEOs with expert facilitation and individual coaching, for leaders generating US$5M or more in annual revenue. It also lists a Small Business Program for US$1M to US$4M companies and a separate programme for professional service firm leaders. Entry is by application, and Vistage says it is not for every leader by design.

  • Best for: CEOs and owners at US$5M or more who want a confidential, facilitated room of peers plus individual time with a Chair.
  • Not ideal if: your business is below the revenue line, you want specialist input on marketing and customers, or you need a price before you talk to anyone. Fees are not listed on its site.

EO (Entrepreneurs' Organization). EO's homepage reports about 20,000 members in 226 chapters worldwide, and describes confidential peer groups for problem-solving and support. Its membership page asks that you are a founder, co-founder, owner or controlling shareholder of a company generating at least US$1M in annual revenue. EO also has a New Zealand chapter.

  • Best for: founders and owners who want peers who have also built their own company, with a lower revenue entry point than the other two.
  • Not ideal if: you are a hired CEO rather than an owner, or you want one expert studying your numbers rather than a group.

YPO. YPO's homepage reports tens of thousands of chief executive members worldwide. Its membership page lists the entry rules: you must be under 45, be the top operational leader of the company or division with final decision-making authority and full P and L accountability, and meet a size test. That is either 50 full-time employees, or 15 or more full-time employees with at least US$2.75M in annual employee compensation. Revenue thresholds then apply by company type, for example US$16M or more for sales, service and manufacturing companies.

  • Best for: younger chief executives of larger companies who want a global peer community.
  • Not ideal if: you are over 45, lead a smaller business, or you are not the top decision-maker.

An independent coach, including Simple-Growth. The Simple-Growth System has four pillars: business strategy, marketing and communications, sales, and productivity and implementation. It starts with your life goal, finds the one real constraint first, fixes that before you spend another dollar, then sets a 90-day plan with owners, deadlines and one number to watch. AI is used where it removes time, cost or effort. It is built from over 30 years in business, 60+ global brands at DDB, Ogilvy and Saatchi and Saatchi, 9 companies founded or co-founded, and coaching since 2017.

  • Best for: owners of established businesses who want one expert working on their own customers, strategy and numbers, with no entry rules beyond fit.
  • Not ideal if: you want a standing room of peers, a global network or a membership badge, or you are a corporate executive working on your own career.

Which one fits you? A quick matrix

  • Owner or founder with US$1M or more in revenue who wants entrepreneurial peers: EO.
  • CEO or owner at US$5M or more who wants a facilitated peer room and a Chair: Vistage.
  • Under 45, running a larger company as its top operational leader: YPO.
  • Under the revenue lines, or you want a specialist focused on your business alone: a one-on-one coach or advisor.
  • Pre-revenue or on a very small budget: free mentoring, The Inside Track newsletter, or a self-paced programme.
  • Executive or manager inside a large organisation, working on your own leadership: an executive coach or your employer's platform. Not Simple-Growth.

Can a peer network and a coach work together?

Often, yes. A peer room is strong on judgement, accountability and the loneliness of the top job. A coach is strong on your specific numbers, customers and plan. They solve different constraints. The fresh outside view matters here: a room of peers who share your title can still share your blind spots, and an outsider from another industry will ask the question none of them thinks to ask.

"Kevin D'Ambros-Smith was the first coach that helped us and he was so great. He understood the business straightaway, was able to identify some of the areas where we could grow it, and some of the things to park."

Sarah McGuinness, Founder and CEO, Revolutionaries of Wellbeing (ROW)

Individual results vary and depend on the business and the work the owner puts in.

Who should not choose Simple-Growth?

Kevin would rather lose a sale than take on the wrong client. Please look elsewhere if you want a standing room of peers, if you are a corporate executive wanting leadership or career coaching, or if you are pre-revenue and need free mentoring first.

Self-paced online programmes for owners at an earlier stage or on a smaller budget are launching soon. Join The Inside Track to hear first.

Frequently asked questions

Is Vistage, EO or YPO better?

None is better in every case. They admit different people. Check the entry rules on each provider's own membership page first, then ask about fees, because none of the three lists them.

Can a small business owner join Vistage?

Vistage lists a Small Business Program for companies with US$1M to US$4M in revenue, alongside its main programme for US$5M or more. Entry is by application.

Is EO only for founders?

EO's membership page says founder, co-founder, owner or controlling shareholder of a company with at least US$1M in annual revenue. A hired CEO is not described as eligible on that page.

Is a peer group better than a coach?

They solve different things. A peer group gives you experienced people facing similar decisions. A coach gives you one expert focused on your numbers. Some owners do both.

How long should I commit?

Ask for the term and the way out in writing. For coaching, ninety days is a sensible first checkpoint.

Simple-Growth publishes this guide and the Simple-Growth System is one of the options discussed. The criteria are listed above so you can apply them to any provider.
