There is no single best business coach in the USA. Here are five criteria for choosing one, a fair look at the main formats, and why an outside perspective can change what you see in your own business.
You'd never let a salesperson go two years without a script update, a new price list, or a fresh answer to your most common objection. Yet that's exactly what's happened to your website — the one team member working 24 hours a day, answering every prospect's first question before you ever get a call. If your site still says what it said in 2024, it's not neutral. It's actively costing you customers who typed "small business marketing NZ" or your category into Google, landed on your homepage, and left within eight seconds because nothing told them what to do next.
The enemy here is the belief that a website is a brochure — something you build once, publish, and leave alone. A brochure describes you. A salesperson sells. Most SME websites are built by a well-meaning contractor years ago to describe the business, and never once rebuilt to actually sell it. There's no clear next step for the visitor, no proof it works, and no reason to act today rather than next month. Harvard Business Review's research on B2B buying behaviour has repeatedly found that a large majority of a buyer's decision is already shaped before they ever speak to a salesperson — which means your website isn't pre-sales support anymore. For most visitors, it is the sales conversation.
Before you spend a dollar on a rebuild, run this audit. It takes five minutes and tells you exactly where the leak is.
1. The Eight-Second Test — can a stranger tell what you do, who it's for, and what to do next?
2. The One-CTA Rule — cut competing calls to action down to one.
3. The Proof Gap — surface testimonials and numbers above the third scroll.
4. The Mobile Reality Check — load your own site on your phone right now.
“Kevin D'Ambros-Smith was the first coach that helped us and he was so great. He understood the business straightaway, was able to identify some of the areas where we could grow it, and some of the things to park. I don't think the ROW branding would be nearly as strong without his input. He was just brilliant.”
— Sarah McGuinness, Founder CEO, Revolutionaries of Wellbeing (ROW)
Most owners know the website is tired. They avoid fixing it because it feels like a design problem, and design projects are expensive, slow, and easy to postpone. But a website that converts isn't a design problem — it's a positioning and proof problem, the same one that shows up in every other part of the marketing. Fix the message and the proof first; the design can follow later and cheaper. This is where an outside eye earns its keep: you know your business too well to see what a stranger sees in the first eight seconds.
If your marketing is generating traffic your website can't convert, that's a positioning problem before it's a design problem — and it's the first thing we fix together.
