Most sales training focuses on the pitch and the close. The call is usually already lost in the first five minutes. Here's the agenda-set and diagnostic sequence that fixes it — at the team level, not just for one rep.
AI has gone from a curiosity to a daily habit for small business owners faster than almost any tool before it. A 2026 study of 350 US small business owners by Bluehost found 87 percent now use at least one AI tool, 56 percent use one every single day, and ChatGPT alone is used by 73 percent of them. And yet, in that same research, only 6 percent of owners say they highly trust AI with something as personal as their brand's voice. That gap, between how much owners use AI and how much they trust it with judgement calls, is exactly where a good coach still earns their fee.
The fear doing the rounds is that AI replaces coaching. The data says something more precise. In the same Bluehost 2026 study, 29 percent of owners name "losing the human touch" as their single biggest concern about AI. AI is extraordinary at speed: drafting the email, summarising last month's numbers, generating ten headline options in ten seconds. What it can't do is sit across from you and ask the question you're avoiding, or notice that you've said "I'll fix the pricing problem" in four sessions running without ever actually doing it. Judgement, courage and accountability are still entirely human work.
Used well, AI is a lever for your goals, not a gadget to play with. The coach's role shifts from doing the admin alongside you to deciding what the hours you just saved actually get spent on, and holding you to spending them there:
"Keeping me sane and focused during uncertain times."

It's easy to substitute "I asked ChatGPT about it" for actually making the decision, because asking feels like progress without the discomfort of committing. A coach closes that gap, not by replacing the tool, but by making sure the answer it gave you turns into something you actually did this week.
If AI has given you more answers but no more action, a coach changes your equation.
Be the owner who turns every answer into something done this week.
