26% of small business owners plan to spend $0 on marketing this month — and it's capping their growth more than they realize. Here's the Marketing Floor framework to fix it.
A quarter of businesses now say more than one in ten of their products on the shelf or in the warehouse simply isn't selling, double the share that said the same two years ago. That's not a supply chain footnote, it's growth hiding in plain sight. Every dollar tied up in stock that isn't moving is a dollar that can't fund your new stock, your next hire or the marketing push that actually grows your business. Your revenue can be climbing while your cash gets tighter, because growth and cash are not the same thing, and the gap between them is often sitting in your storeroom.
According to the 2026 Netstock Supply Chain Planning Benchmark Report, the share of businesses reporting significant dead stock has doubled since 2024, while just over half report consistently strong service levels, up from 41 percent the year before. Put together, that means plenty of businesses are simultaneously carrying excess stock in some lines and running out in others, the worst of both positions: cash locked up and customers still walking away empty-handed. Most owners discover this at stocktake, which is far too late to do anything but write it off.
None of this needs expensive software to track. It needs three numbers reviewed on a schedule, not a spreadsheet nobody opens until year end.
"Kevin, you distilled business, marketing and sales strategy into powerful simple concepts and actions with real life stories of your start-up business and corporate life. You walk the talk with empathy and passion. Feedback has been off the charts. The energy in the room was palpable."

Dead stock is easy to miss precisely because the headline numbers still look good: revenue is up, the shop looks full, the warehouse looks busy. It's a visibility problem, not an effort problem, and it's exactly the kind of blind spot a numbers-first coaching relationship is built to catch early, usually inside the first session, well before it shows up as a year-end write-off.
If you can't say, right now, how much cash is sitting in stock that isn't moving, that's the first number you and Kevin can find together. Become the owner who sees a cash squeeze coming months before stocktake.
