You cancelled the weekend away again. If you can't step away long enough to ask whether a coach is worth it, that's not a reason to skip the question — it's the reason to ask it.

The short answer

Choose by stage and by problem. Strategic Coach suits established entrepreneurs who want a long-term thinking community and four workshops a year. Tony Robbins Business Mastery is a five-day event that suits an owner who wants fresh energy and ideas fast. One-on-one coaching suits an owner with a specific constraint in a specific business, such as finding and keeping customers.

The question sounds like a contest. It is not. These three options do different jobs: a membership community, a live event and personal work on your own business. Many US owners pick by brand name first and by problem second, which is backwards. This guide describes each option fairly, using each provider's own words, so you can match the help to the constraint that is holding your business back.

Every provider fact below was read on its own website on 3 November 2026 (New Zealand time), and links to the source. Where a provider does not publish a price, we have not guessed one.

What is Strategic Coach, and who is it for?

Strategic Coach says it has worked with over 25,000 entrepreneurs from 60+ industries worldwide, since 1989. Its Signature Program is four in-person or virtual workshops per year. To qualify, it says you need at least three years in your own business and a minimum net personal income of US/CA$200K in the last tax year. Fees are paid up front on an annual basis, and the page we read shows no price.

It suits an established entrepreneur who values frameworks, a peer community and protected time out of the business each quarter. The thing to check is how much of the work on your own numbers happens after you leave the room.

What is Tony Robbins Business Mastery, and who is it for?

Tony Robbins describes Business Mastery as five days of learning expert strategies for growing your business. The page we read lists a virtual event on January 13 to 17, 2027, Eastern time, and says it is for entrepreneurs and executives, business owners and managers. It also says the event is interactive, with exercises and collaboration with other entrepreneurs. The ticket includes bonuses such as six one-on-one Business Coaching sessions and one year in Tony's Business Accelerator community. No price is shown; there is an apply step.

It suits an owner who wants a jolt of energy, new ideas and a room of other owners. The thing to check is the plan you will follow once the five days end.

What does one-on-one business coaching offer instead?

One-on-one coaching is built around your business rather than a shared curriculum. Sessions work on your numbers, your customers and your biggest constraint, and the work continues between sessions. There is no community and no stage, which is the trade-off: you get depth on one business instead of breadth across many.

It suits an owner who already knows roughly what is wrong, or who wants an outside thinking partner to find out, and who will act on a plan.

How do the three compare side by side?

  • Format: Strategic Coach runs four workshops a year, in person or virtual. Business Mastery is one five-day virtual event. One-on-one coaching is regular private sessions on your business.
  • Entry bar: Strategic Coach asks for three years in business and US/CA$200K minimum net personal income. Business Mastery has an apply step. One-on-one coaching starts with a conversation.
  • Price: neither Strategic Coach nor Tony Robbins shows a price on the pages we read, so ask for the full fee in writing. One-on-one coaching fees vary by coach, so ask for the fee schedule up front.
  • Focus: Strategic Coach centers on entrepreneur thinking tools and community. Business Mastery centers on strategy, energy and ideas. One-on-one coaching centers on your specific constraint.
  • Follow-through: with an event or workshop, you carry the ideas back alone unless coaching is included. With one-on-one coaching, the accountability rhythm is the product.
  • Best for: Strategic Coach for established entrepreneurs who want community. Business Mastery for owners who want a fast burst of ideas. One-on-one coaching for owners with a clear constraint to fix.

How do you match the format to your stage?

Answer these five questions honestly before you spend a dollar.

  • Do you know your biggest constraint? If yes, one-on-one coaching can go straight at it. If not, a workshop or event can help you see your options.
  • Do you want a community or a personal thinking partner? Community points to Strategic Coach or an event. A partner points to a coach.
  • Will you act on new ideas without someone checking in? If not, choose a format with an accountability rhythm.
  • Is your constraint finding and keeping customers: brand, marketing and sales? Ask each provider how they would work on that, with examples.
  • Can you commit the calendar time: four workshops a year, five straight days, or a session every week or two?

Can you use more than one?

Yes, and many owners do. An event or community can supply ideas and energy. A coach can turn the best idea into a plan with owners, dates and measures, then keep you accountable for it. The mistake is buying three sources of ideas and no one to help you act on them.

Where does an outside coach add something different?

Most of what US owners hear comes from the same conferences, the same books and the same playbooks. An outside view from someone who has worked across many industries can show you what your industry treats as a law of nature but is really a habit.

Kevin D'Ambros-Smith is a business coach and advisor who has coached 200+ businesses one-on-one across 30+ industries, after a career at DDB, Ogilvy and Saatchi and Saatchi and founding nine companies. He works with US owners online.

His method is to find the real constraint first, then fix it, before you spend another dollar. Here is what one client said:

Kevin has taken the time to truly understand my business, listen to my short- and long-term goals, and helped me to create a progressive, achievable plan. His encouragement, strategic guidance, and ongoing support have been instrumental in driving significant growth in my business and advancing my career pathway. Kevin is more than an adviser; he is a trusted partner who challenges, supports, and keeps me focused on what matters most for the future.

Individual results vary and depend on the business and the work the owner puts in.

Frequently asked questions

Is Strategic Coach worth it?

It depends on your stage and what you will do after each workshop. It is built for established entrepreneurs, and the page we read shows no price, so ask for the full annual fee in writing and compare it with the outcome you want.

Is Tony Robbins Business Mastery for small business owners?

Its page says the event is for entrepreneurs and executives, business owners and managers. Check the current dates, format and what the ticket includes before you apply.

Can I work with a business coach instead of joining a program?

Yes. One-on-one coaching is built around your business and your constraint. Start by asking any coach how they would work on your biggest problem and who they have helped with something similar.

Can a coach outside the US help a US business?

Yes. Kevin works with US owners online, and the free 30-minute call runs across US time zones. The outside view is a supporting benefit, not a claim that one country coaches better than another.

How do I know which constraint to fix first?

Look at where the business loses time, money or customers. The Simple-Growth questionnaire can point you to the right kind of help.
